The NBTS New Investigator Award was presented to David S. Sharlin (nominated by Dr. Mary Gilbert) of the NIDDK, National Institutes of Health, Washington, DC for his paper: The balance between oligodendrocyte and astrocyte production in major white matter tracts is linearly related to serum total thyroxine.

The Merck and Co., Inc. Conference Award was presented to:
